Press Release
10th September
Christian Arts charity in Levenshulme secure £13,000 from the Big Lottery and the Equity Foundation to provide weekly out of school activities for disadvantaged young people.
Manchester Community spirit, opened their doors to the young people in Levenshulme just over 6 months ago, with very little financial backing, but a with a vision to provide arts based activities for disadvantaged young people. Within a matter of weeks, young people were knocking on their doors, wanting to access its drop in style projects, including a music production workshop, for boys at risk of crime, and a self-esteem project aimed at young women with low self-esteem.
After successfully supporting young people across Levenshulme, Gorton, Long sight and the surrounding areas, Manchester Community spirit is delighted to have secured funding from the both sources to run a Drop in project for its young people starting in October. The Big Lottery Fund is the largest distributor of National Lottery good cause funding across the UK. The Fund aims to enable others to make real improvements to communities and the lives of people most in need. The Equity Foundation is part of Equity Housing Group, a social housing provider based in Stockport. In partnership with corporate supporters, The Equity Foundation provides practical support for charities and community groups across Stockport, Trafford and South Manchester.
The Foundation was launched in January 2013 and has already provided grants totaling £100,000 across almost 50 projects which will see more than 12,000 local people benefit directly.
